The first edition of “ART-ACT Festival”, is premiering as a part of Singapore Art Week, featuring audiovisual art pieces from international and emerging artists reflecting on some of the most relevant and pressing topics experienced today globally such as the climate crisis, human rights, freedom of expression, among others.
The festival features 7 curated art pieces that will be screened in two large LED billboard formats around the city of Singapore- one Ten Square, Landmark of Good at the Selegie Art District, and Media Art Nexus at the Nanyang Technological University Singapore.
The pieces harness the power of art activism to engage the audience in a journey of critical thinking while creating an aesthetic experience of contemplation. They vary in style and medium of production by mixing performance art, illustration, 3D animation, photography, and videography.
Together with the pieces, the artists present a collection of art manifestos to reinforce their call to action.
The project was curated by Aura Murilo and Ina Conradi with the support of He Xiang and Ziqq Rafit from the DesignSingapore Council Associates Network and in partnership with the Ten Square Landmark of Good (Gary Hong and Natalie Hong) and in collaboration with the Royal College of Art London, Nanyang Technological University Singapore, School of Art, Design and Media with Media Art Nexus.
For international audiences who are not in Singapore, the festival will also be live-streamed on the 12th of January at 19:00 SG time through the Instagram profile @mediaartnexus
